Menu access missing when top toolbar hidden

I have hidden the top toolbar in settings because I use the phone in landscape mode. However, I now can't seem to access the menu at all.
Is there another way to access the menu once the top toolbar has been hidden? The app is pretty useless without being able to access the menu, and I can't figure out how to do it.
