Description

GPX Viewer no longer shows the current location icon on the map and tapping the location button has no effect. It seems the app has no access to the phone's location information.

The location service is on, the app has the location permission (all the time + precise), the phone is not in any battery-saving mode, other GPS apps both Google and third-party show location information with no problem. Rebooting the phone, resetting the permissions, and re-installing the app did not solve the issue.

I appreciate any suggestions to solve the problem. I would prefer not to have the reset the phone to the factory condition.

Thank you!

Hello, thank you for contacting us. I am sorry for the issue you are encountering. Could I ask you to include some screenshots and what type of map do you use online or offline and map style set? Thank you.

The attached screenshot shows an online map (Google). The location button has no effect. Tapping the 'follow GPS' button (white arrow on blue) repositions and zooms the map to my location but still does not show an icon for my location.

I downloaded an offline map and the behaviour is different. With offline maps, clicking the location button repositions and zooms the map on my location and shows my location (a smaller blue arrow in a white circle). When I drive around, the location icon correctly follows my position. It appears everything works fine using offline maps, but does not work with Google maps.

Tomas, thank you for putting me on the right track—this issue had something to do with Google Play GPS location services. Following an advice from some internet forum, I connected the phone via ADB and executed this command:

adb shell pm grant com.google.android.gms android.permission.ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION

Lo and behold, GPX Viewer works fine again, with both Google and offline maps!
